Metal Shed Maintenance

, , Blogging Queen

Have you been avoiding the back yard view because of the painly looking view of your metal shed? Is it dirty, grimy, or even rusty? Metal sheds are a great way to increase your storage and metal sheds are a great option. Many know that metal rusts so there are a few tips to get your rusty looking shed back to normal.

First step is cleaning the shed. Use a hose with an attachment because with the power in the spray you will be able to remove dirt, grime, rust, and even stuck on leaves. Also grab a sponge and some cleaning solution to assure the cleaning is done. By cleaning the shed you are getting an accurate assessment of damage done to the shed which will help you prepare for the project.

Does your shed have rust? Holes? Now is the time to patch the holes with putty. After the holes have been patched make sure you sand the area well. Now you will have to determine how much rust you need to remove and the best way to go about it. Some stores you can rent a sander and other stores sell attachments to help get the job done. Once you remove all the rust make sure you do another cleaning.

The next step is applying Rust- Inhibitor Primer. Be careful and read all the instructions when dealing with this primer. You might need more than one coat of the Rust-Inhibitor Primer before you can use acrylic paint for the shed.

Once you are ready to start painting make sure you use good paint brushes and good paint. Try to paint going in one direction to avoid streaks. If you have trim on the shed you might want to paint that before the main portion of the shed. In most cases you will need two coats of paint.

Next sit back and enjoy your work!

5 Boating Accessories You Need in your Boat

Live, Laugh, Blog

Boating is a lot of fun, but when you're out on the water and your boat breaks down, it can be scary. Being prepared for anything can help you if something like this happens, so keep reading to learn about the most important boating accessories you should carry with you at all times.

Remember, should your boat stop running while you're on the water, don't panic. As long as your boat stays afloat, you're in good shape and can get back to shore.

Extra Battery

Having an extra charged battery on board can be a life-saver. Sometimes batteries fail to charge or quit taking a charge and may cause trouble when starting the boat. To prevent this from becoming an issue when you're in the middle of the lake, have an extra fully-charged battery tucked away, just in case.

Anchors

This should be a no-brainer, but you should have at least one good anchor on board your boat. Whether you ever use it or not to hold your boat for fishing or swimming, it can come in handy should your boat break down. If it's a windy day and you don't have control of your boat because the motor has quit, an anchor can hold you in place until help arrives.

Flares

In some states, it is the law that you carry flares on board your boat. Whether it is the law in your state or not, you should carry them anyway. Flares come in hand-held stick form as well as ones that can be shot from a flare gun. Flares can come in pretty handy, especially if you're on a large body of water where other boaters may not see you easily.

Oars

If your boat motor stops working, it may become necessary to row your boat into shore. Be sure to carry a set of oars on board your boat so you don't get stranded. It may take some time to get back into shore, but it sure beats floating around in the middle of the lake waiting (and hoping) for help to arrive.

Extra Prop

While you may not be able to change a damaged prop while in the water, having one in case your prop is damaged is still a good idea. It can mean the difference in getting back on the water right away and having to wait several days (or weeks!) to have your old prop repaired or special ordered. If you know you've banged your boat's prop on the bottom of the lake (rocks are not kind to props!), replace it with your spare until you can get the other one fixed so you can get back out on the water quickly.

Sparklers on Valentine's Day

Blogging Queen

Valentine’s Day is a relatively important date for couples. This is the day where you express your love for one another and celebrate with dinner, dancing, flowers, candy, and gifts of all sorts.

Year after year of the same things can become rather mundane and boring. Mixing things up and trying new things can give Valentine’s Day a whole new spin. While spending quality time with your partner is the most important, kick it up a notch in any celebration is the use of sparklers.

Sparklers can be used in so many ways to set the mood and show your love just how much you care. Use sparklers as general decorations or to add emphasis to a particular part of your celebration. A good start to setting the mood would be to set up multiple heart shaped sparklers around the room (or area you will be in). Light them just before entering for a dazzling surprise.

Another way to incorporate sparklers into your celebration of love is to give a heart shaped sparkler in place of a rose. This idea is definitely unusual and unexpected. Surely it will bring a smile to anyone's face. Continue adding sparkle to your evening by attaching single sparklers to Valentine’s Day gifts and once the gift has been open, light the sparkler and enjoy its radiance.

Rings are often given (and sometimes expected) on Valentine’s Day as a big sign of love. The traditional ring in a box can become a little on the bland side. Why not spice it up a little bit? Make it an event she will never forget. Take a few sparklers and tie them with a ribbon. Slide the ring over the group of sparklers for a ring presentation that will be like no other. Grow Vegetables Year-round in a Greenhouse

Live, Laugh, Blog

It is becoming increasingly popular - many gardeners are turning to DIY greenhouse kits to continue growing vegetables all year long. Starting their own plants from seed each season saves money and provides quality, guaranteed healthy foods throughout the year. Learning to grow your own vegetables in a greenhouse takes a little bit of know-how, but it is relatively easy once you get the hang of it.

Temperature is Key

For most vegetables, you must keep your greenhouse at a favorable temperature. This means, in cooler months, the temperature should be above 55º and in warmer months, kept below 100º to continue growth. Tomatoes, for instance, will stop growing once the temperature exceeds 100º.

Lighting

Vegetables require a certain amount of sunlight to grow. This means in the winter when days are shorter, you may have to install grow lights to extend their exposure to daylight hours and help them grow. A grow light can also help on dreary days when little light makes it into the greenhouse.

On the other hand, in the summer, you may need to shade parts of your greenhouse to allow for plants that require a certain amount of shade to grow properly.

Planting from Seed

You will need to start your plants from seed at different times of the year to produce crops all year long. For instance, tomato seeds are usually planted in early January and then again in July to produce a crop in summer and winter. Growing seasons depend on your geographical region and conditions inside the greenhouse, so consult a gardening specialist if you have questions.

Pollination Inside a Greenhouse

Since your plants are inside and not exposed to natural pollination methods such as heavy rainfall, wind or insects, you must take on the task yourself. Watch for signs of peak pollination times and then act quickly. For tomatoes, the leaves of the blossoms begin to curl when they are ready for pollination. When you see this happen, you have three days to pollinate your plants. To do this, you must tap the stakes used to support the plant to distribute the pollen over the plant. Check with your local gardening expert for more instruction on how to pollinate the plants you have in your greenhouse.
